Deep in a quiet alley of Hue, Vietnam, lies a long-loved local sweet shop called Chè Hẻm.
“Chè” is a traditional Vietnamese dessert, similar to a sweet soup or pudding, made with ingredients like beans, taro, jellies, and coconut milk.
This time, I tried their signature sweet corn chè (Chè Bắp)—a bowl filled with nostalgia, sweetness, and cooling comfort on a hot day.

🏠 Inside the Shop & Wi-Fi Speed
The shop is clean and minimal, with trays full of colorful ingredients behind the counter.

From mung beans and lotus seeds to vibrant jellies and taro, the variety is impressive and distinctly local.

Even more surprising—the Wi-Fi speed. I measured over 100 Mbps using Fast.com, which is rare for a dessert shop of this size.

✍️ Reflection
Seventeen years ago, I visited Hue for the first time. It was in a place like this—simple and local—where I had my first chè.
Back then, it cost only 5,000–7,000 VND (~$0.25). Now it’s 16,000 VND—but the flavors, atmosphere, and warmth remain the same.
It reminded me of a time when I was working hard in Japan and quietly dreaming of building a life connected to Vietnam. This dessert brought that memory back vividly.
